Self Improvement Thoughts as We Go into High Gear for the Holidays

As we come in the calendar month of December the vacation season is moving into high gear. Every television commercial message states "Buy, Buy, Buy." Some even propose that you acquire a loan so you can purchase those expensive gifts you believe each member of your household desires (and needs?) After all, will 5 twelvemonth old Tommy ever esteem you again if you don't give him his ain cell telephone with music, picture and textual matter messaging? (of course of study he can't read or enchantment but so what?) Volition 13 twelvemonth old Jessica forgive you if she doesn't have those $120 interior designer jeans? Bashes your married woman anticipate diamonds or your hubby anticipate a Rolex even though you're on a tight budget? Or, hey, how about having twin Mercedes sitting in the private road on Christmastide morning time like the commercial messages instruct?

Get real

At the foundation of ego improvement is knowing what you believe and how that belief system shows up in your mundane life. When your beliefs are yours and not what you were told you must believe and your bounds are clear, you can observe how you take to celebrate. That jubilation may be traditional or avant guarde and it will be meaningful to you. You may take not to observe at all and that is certainly an option as well. Being able to make this necessitates high ego regard and balance in your life.

Let's expression at the vacations we celebrate:

Christmas: a jubilation of the birth of Jesus.

Hanukkah (Chanukah): the festival of visible lights that observes the rededication of the temple at the clip of the Macabee rebellion.

Kwanzaa: a alone African American jubilation with focusing on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. Kwanzaa is neither political nor spiritual and despite some misconceptions, is not a replacement for Christmas. It is simply a clip of reaffirming African-American people, their ascendants and culture. http://www.tike.com/celeb-kw.htm

Two are spiritual jubilations and one is a jubilation of household and culture. I cognize the history of Santa Claus and, essentially, it have nil to make with the above three jubilations and Santa doesn't associate to the present twenty-four hours commercialism, either.

No, my name is not Niggard and I love the gifting at Christmas/Hannukah arsenic much as anyone. I love the odor of all that fantastic food, the long aroma of the tree, and the aroma of candles. I love the exhilaration of the children and their avidity to scintilla the fancy paper and acquire to what it hides. I love the household coming together and talking about old modern times and what-might-have-been as well as what is now. I love seeing the new babies, and caressing the grandmothers and grandfathers and seeing how much the nieces and nephews have got grown. But, give me a break. What makes this have got to do with Christmas, Hannukah or Kwanzaa?

Let's at least acquire honorable about what it is we are celebrating and let's make our ain regulations about exactly how we desire to observe it. Don't allow equal pressure level or the merchants state you what to make or what and how much to purchase or how it is you will observe Christmas, Hannukah or Kwanzaa.

Happy Holidays - your way!
